Toby Huntington-Whiteley takes LOVE BRAND & Co. on a tour of his Santorini hidden gems.
Where to stay in Santorini?
Vino Houses, we discovered this through a travel agency and it was perfect. It’s a villa that has been divided into 3 separate self contained apartments, which includes a private plunge pool. Yota, who runs the hotel, is very welcoming and makes you feel very much at home straight away. It’s the ideal place to relax and switch off from London.
What is your top restaurant pick?
On our first day we went to this amazing beach restaurant – Yalos, on the east coast. We ordered the fish of the day (red snapper), which they cooked 3 ways: sashimi and ceviche for our starters, followed with the other filet traditionally grilled with local vegetables which I had. Noa and I shared the fish starters and added a greek salad. It was the best meal we had of the holiday and the ceviche was the best I’ve ever tasted. We ordered a greek salad at every restaurant we went to- and this one was the best.
Best off-the-beaten-track gem?
While away we went to Paros for a few days as well. We went to this very chilled beach bar and restaurant. We were only meant to stay for lunch but we loved it so much we stayed all afternoon. We had a huge bean bag to chill on, we read our books, played backgammon and dipped into the ocean when we got too hot… it was an unforgettable day.
Where to drink in Santorini?
Sundowners in Oia. It’s the prettiest village on the island and there are bars and restaurants all over the village clinging to the cliff, with perfect sunset views. You can’t really go wrong. We went to Petra which is a bar in a beautiful hotel called Canaves Oia.
One thing you can’t travel without?
My Polaroid camera, given to me as a birthday gift a few years ago which now comes with me everywhere. I take most of my photos on my phone like the rest of us, but its nice to take a few special ones on this camera. I now have a small stack of memories that one day I will put into an album…
What were you reading on holiday?
I was reading ‘Why I’m no longer talking to white people about race’ I can’t recommend it enough. It’s an essential book to read and gives you an insight of race relations in the UK.
Having the luxury of swimming in the sea every day. I love the ocean. There aren’t many days when I’m in London and don’t think about wanting to be swimming in the sea. To have it for a whole week has to be my highlight.
Have you got any future trips planned?
I have booked a few days in a really unique hotel called Aire de Bardenas in Spain where you can sleep in a bubble which is a bit like an igloo but clear so you can see the stars while falling asleep. Its just on the outskirts of the Bardenas Reales National Park which I can’t wait to explore. It is the biggest desert in Europe and has an amazing appearance due to the winds that pass and cut into the landscape.
Finally, what inspired you to start working with LOVE BRAND?
I came across LOVE BRAND via Instagram a few years back and was inspired by the involvement and dedication that the brand has to support endangered animals. I felt compelled to get to know the brand more and once I spoke to Oliver, I knew I had to be part of it and asked how I could help.
